Update on Suspension of Classes at Tohkon Judo Academy
To All Tohkon Members, Families and Friends,
I hope you all are keeping safe and healthy, and not getting too crazy being stuck at home! We have been monitoring the Coronavirus carefully, as I'm sure everyone else has been doing the same. With the Stay at Home order in place, we must continue to keep Tohkon Judo Academy closed until further notice. Hopefully, things will get better soon and we can re-open for Judo practice. I really miss teaching all the kids and working out and seeing everyone!
We are working on ideas to help everyone continue practicing your Judo at home with our own Tohkon Judo Training Videos. We plan to post weekly Judo Videos for our Cubby and Junior Class, our Fundamentals Class, our Woman's Class, and more. We all need to exercise to stay in shape and to relieve some pent up energy and stress!!! Will keep you posted!!!!
Tohkon needs your support so we can pay our bills and be able to re-open our doors for practice when this Corona Virus pandemic is over. If you have the resources and are able to, we ask if you could please continue to pay your monthly dues to Tohkon. We totally understand if you are not able to, the closing of businesses during this Stay at Home order has affected many people's income. Trust me, I feel your pain and share your concerns. We all have to stick together and support each other as best we can during these difficult times. With each Tohkon Training Video, we will provide information or a link to Paypal so you can pay your monthly dues or make a donation. We appreciate your continued support.
I just received a message from USA Judo that they are postponing the Sr. National Championships originally scheduled for May 15-17, 2020 in Daytona Beach, FL. Another Judo event bites the dust! I'm sure there will be more to follow.
Currently, we are still planning to host our Tohkon Classic 25 and Komatsu Cup 3 on June 27 and 28, 2020 at the UIC Forum. As of yesterday the University said that June events are still on schedule. We are monitoring the situation very closely and will keep you all posted.
Please be safe and stay healthy.
Take good care!
Suspension of Classes at Tohkon Judo Academy
From the Board of Directors: Tohkon Judo Academy
To: All Tohkon Members, Families and Friends
The safety and well-being of our students, coaches and family, has always been and remains a core value of our club. We continue to monitor the spread and effects of the new Coronavirus (COVID-19) closely and are following guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
At this time, we are not aware of any infectious contact within Tohkon Judo Academy or any family members. That being said, Judo is a contact sport, which puts us all at risk of sharing whatever germs we bring to the mat. This is why we clean/disinfect routinely, and dust-mop the mats after every practice. In the context of COVID-19, with its incubation period of up to two weeks, the reality is there are people who are infected but don't yet experience the full effect of symptoms. It is out of diligent caution, and our intent to error on the side of safety & well-being of our students and coaches, we will be temporarily suspending our practice schedule until the COVID-19 Virus is managed effectively and under control.
Effective immediately we are suspending ALL scheduled practices for the next two weeks, then reassess on a week-by-week basis. Prior to the end of March, we will be in contact with you as to resumption of practices or further extension of the pause. We will stay in touch with you.
It is our hope that in the next few weeks, wide-spread testing and general social distancing in our communities will lead to greater clarity and ability to contain the outbreak.
We encourage all of you to practice and promote universal precautions, including frequent hand washing, covering coughing/sneezing, avoiding large gatherings, and staying home if/when you feel sick.
We look forward to seeing this outbreak subside, so we can all get back to our normal routine, including our Judo practice.
If you or a family member has come in contact with or is a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 please let us know so we can further protect our students, coaches and families and they can seek direction and care from their health care providers.
